A DRIVER fled the scene of a crash in Halliwell Road this afternoon.
Police were called to the incident, involving a silver Audi A3 and Isuzu truck, close to the junction with Peak Street, at just after 12.15pm.
David Seddon was drinking in the Last Orders pub, in Halliwell Road, when he heard a "massive smash".
He said: "This silver Audi had come flying down trying to overtake a wagon and, as it slowed down, it smashed into the back of the wagon and spun round.
He claimed that after his friend attempted to chase the driver, a knife was flashed in his direction.
Mr Seddon explained: "The Audi driver got out of the car and ran straight past me and said 'I'm off'.
"He ran to the top of Cotton Street and got picked up in another car.
"One of my friends tried to chase him and they flashed a knife at him through the window.
"The car is a total write-off. He could have killed somebody."

Police say that no one was injured in the crash, however, the Audi has sustained damage to its front end.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called just after 12.15pm to a collision between a car and a van.
"It looks like one of the drivers fled the scene."
