A FORMER bank, which has been closed for four years, is up for auction.
The two-storey former RBS bank in Wigan Road, Bolton, will go under the hammer in a North West property auction, scheduled for next week.
The 3,000 sq ft building, which closed in 2015, is being auctioned with a guide price of around £90,000 by auctioneers Pugh’s.
Councillor Andrew Morgan said he was disappointed with the closure of the banking facility.
He said: “The area is lacking in banking facilities, so it is disappointing to see that the RBS bank has closed down.
"It does seem extremely unlikely to see it being replaced with another banking facility. But we will have to wait and see.”
The building is surrounded by shops and houses and is directly opposite The Vulcan pub.
The sellers point to the six schools nearby and the M61 motorway just two miles away.
Paul Thompson, managing director of Pugh auction house, said: “From a business perspective it is a good location, only two miles from Bolton town centre, with easy access to the motorway.”
The building is considered suitable for change of use or development, which Mr Thompson highlighted.
He added: “The former Bolton RBS branch property has potential for change of use, subject to planning consent.”
The firm’s property auction will take place at the AJ Bell Stadium in Manchester on April 9.
