BOLTON's own Market Place featured on a primetime Channel 4 show last night, complimenting the shopping centre's ancient Egyptian theme.

Featured on Extreme Cake Makers, the shopping centre made its debut on the 5.30pm programme.

The episode was filmed last August during Bolton's Food and Drink Festival and centred around a spectacular cake designed to look like a scary mummy emerging from a gold sarcophagus — fitting with the shopping centre's Egyptian decor at the time.

The shopping centre was transformed during the annual festival to fit the Pharoah feeling. The makeover was inspired by Bolton Museum’s temporary relocation to Market Place, while their permanent premises were under redevelopment.

Nikki Wilson-Cook, the centre manager of Market Place, said: “We were really excited to see Market Place on TV last night! With filming taking place over 7 months ago, we’ve had quite a wait to see this episode but all the fabulous memories of the Food Festival came flooding back and we can’t wait to do it all again!”

The baker was multi award-winning Cake Artist, Rosie Dummer, also known as Rosie Cake Diva, who is currently starring in the Channel 4 show. The cake put her talents on display, featuring a colourful sarcophagus and a creepy, red-eyed mummy complete with loosening bandages.

Rosie is no stranger to baking big cakes, having taken on the challenge to bake a full sized member of The Grenadier Guards as well as a replica of Big Ben and the more locally renowned landmark, The Steel Man.

Celebrity chef Michael Caines was in attendance at the food festival to witness the unveiling of the incredible cake and cut the first slice.
