WANDERERS' home match against Ipswich Town is set to go ahead after a prohibition order banning supporters from entering the ground was withdrawn.

The game was in doubt after the order was issued earlier in the week, with the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) adamant the club could not guarantee fans’ safety for the Championship fixture.

However, an emergency meeting, held yesterday after Wanderers’ High Court appointment, led to the SAG issuing the club with a deadline of this morning to provide guarantees.

The order has now been withdrawn after the club issued reassurances that it was able to meet the legal conditions for a general safety certificate.

A spokesperson for SAG, a multi-agency panel which includes Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Bolton Council, North West Ambulance Service and St John Ambulance, said: “We recognise that Bolton Wanderers Football Club is at the heart of our community and this has been a deeply regrettable situation.

“Partners are going above and beyond to put the plans in place to make sure games go ahead.

“Safety and security have always been our primary concern and we are pleased that the club has been able to reassure us that they are able to host the game in a safe manner.”

The prohibition order was issued following a meeting on Tuesday after the SAG raised concerns about Wanderers’ ability to guarantee the safety of spectators and the public for Saturday's fixture, as well as the visit of Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

Prior to the meeting, the club confirmed to representatives that it would not be able to commit to the conditions of its stadium safety certificate until after its appointment at the High Court yesterday.

SAG members unanimously agreed that this would be too short a timeframe to put an operation in place to protect the safety of spectators for the both the Ipswich and Middlesbrough games.

However, today's u-turn means it will be business as usual for Phil Parkinson's side as they bid to give their hopes of Championship survival a boost against the league's bottom side on Saturday.
