A DANGEROUS driver who smashed into two cars and a pedestrian has lost a bid to get his licence back early.

In 2016 Mohammed Bux was jailed for 14 months and banned from driving for four years and seven months after a court heard how he had careered along Derby Street, Bolton, weaving in and out of traffic at up to 62mph in a 30mph limit.

The driving, on August 1 2015, resulted in two cars being written off and a pedestrian injured.

It was the second time Bux, who also has a conviction for driving while banned, had been caught driving dangerously.

Bux’s current driving ban is due to run out in September next year, after which he will have to take an extended retest.

But he was back at Bolton Crown Court this week in an attempt to persuade Judge Richard Gioserano to let him back on the roads sooner.

Robert Lassey, for 26-year-old Bux, said: “It’s right that Mr Bux was sentenced for two periods of dangerous driving.

“He was disqualified for what was a very serious offence. He tells me today that he still remains horrified at what he did.”

Mr Lassey added that, in the last three years, Bux has committed no more offences.

“He has matured significantly since his release,” he said.

Judge Gioserano was told that Bux, of Beaconsfield Street, Deane, now does charity work with his local mosque and needs to be able to drive to take his grandparents to hospital appointments and to run his computer wholesale business.

But Judge Gioserano told Bux that his priority was to protect the public and refused to let him have his licence back yet.

He said: "In my judgement, there has been a good degree of progress. But it is whether it is safe to allow this man the return of his driving licence.

"Notwithstanding progress in other areas of his life, it is not."
