A BANK in the town centre which regularly finds faeces and sick left in its doorway has been granted permission to install two CCTV cameras.

HSBC claims that the recent problems have been associated with rough sleepers in the area.

Anti-social behaviour at the Victoria Square branch has included intimidating customers and starting a fire.

There have also been reports of aggressive behaviour, including punching, kicking and headbutting the windows, during opening hours.

The bank branch has been working with the council and the police to highlight the issue but it now wants to take further action.

An HSBC UK spokesman said: “Over the last few months we have received feedback from both customers and branch staff that they have felt uncomfortable or intimidated as a result of anti-social activity taking place immediately outside the branch.

"It isn’t fair on our customers or members of staff to endure this intimidating behaviour, and it is hoped the installation of additional CCTV cameras will be a deterrent as well as providing evidence of any incidents that may take place.”
