IT was full steam ahead for the Trinity Players who brought the hugely enjoyable classic The Love Match to audiences in 1989.

The Farnworth-based theatre company recreated the 1955 British black and white comedy film which starred Arthur Askey, Glenn Melvyn, Thora Hird and Shirley Easton.

The film was based on the 1953 play by Melvyn and centres on a football-mad railway engine driver and his fireman are desperate to get back in time to see a match which leads to a series of mishaps and a series of well-paced gags much to the delight of audiences.

The Trinity Player staged the play at Trinity Church, Farnworth, for three nights with a line-up of an all-star team (pictured).
