A BOLTON MP is backing paper bills for customers.

Sir David Crausby, MP for Bolton North East is backing a campaign to protect the right of consumers to receive paper copies of bills and statements if they wish.

More and more companies are moving their services online, which can be more convenient for customers and save money.

Many people still prefer to receive correspondence in paper form, or do not have internet access.

Despite this, some utility companies have begun charging a fee to people who opt to receive paper bills.

Sir David has signed an Early Day Motion in Parliament to urge the Government to prevent this.

He said: “Advances in technology provide tremendous opportunities for companies to improve their customer service and to save valuable resources.

"However, the rush to take advantage of this progress should not penalise people who do not have internet access or digital skills.

"It should be the right of consumers to decide how they receive information.”
