PLANS to site high quality temporary building in readiness for the opening of Bolton's newest secondary school this September will be decided tomorrow.

To meet an urgent demand for high school places, King's Leadership Academy is looking to open in the new buildings on part of the former Hayward School site in Great Lever. The buildings will be in place for three years while plans for a new school are drawn up.

Concerns raised by local residents include the need for a pedestrian crossing, and an increase in traffic.

Cllr Sue Haworth said: "Councillors have had contact from a good number of families here wanting school places in the area for their children and this new school, if permissions are granted, will deliver on that.

"Having been at one of the meetings put on by the school, it is clear that the school wish to serve the whole community well.

"They and council officers are continuing to listen to the community about matters of potential road congestion and road safety.

"I am pressing the case for a new pedestrian crossing near Hurlston Road and we are listening to residents.”
