A SERIOUS accident on the A580 East Lancs Road has caused authorities to close the key highway.

Firefighters, police and ambulance services were called to the scene of the incident at around 7pm and the road is shut eastbound from Eccles Road to Barton Road.

The accident appears to have occurred near Swinton Park Golf Club and traffic is being directed onto Worsley Road.

A witness said nobody appeared to be seriously injured, although paramedics were treated people at the scene.

Traffic into Manchester is moving slowly as a result of the crash and authorities have not confirmed when the road will reopen.`
