A SPLIT tree has closed Moss Bank Way this morning while contractors cleared the route.
The beech tree is thought to have split part way up its trunk because of the hot weather we have been having.
The road was closed at about 10.30am Bolton-bound between Captains Clough Road and Smithills Dean Road, while Bolton Council workers cleared the debris using chainsaws and cherry pickers.
Greater Manchester Police officers attended the scene as well to manage the road closure.
Beech trees are known to be susceptible to a phenomenon called summer branch drop, thought to be caused by trees struggling to get enough water to their limbs.
