A BOLTON MP has joined the battle against global warming.
Sir David Crausby, MP for Bolton North East has challenged government ministers to move the economy away from fossil fuels and lead the world in targets to reach net-zero green house gas emissions.
Sir David said: “The melting of the polar ice caps and the impacts of climate change are going to be the major issue in the lives of my grandchildren.
"We have to stop kicking these issues down the road and put climate and the environment at the centre of political thinking.
"We need to rethink the way we approach issues like energy production, agriculture, housing standards, transport, plastics, pollinators, wildlife protection, flood defences and the longer we wait to act the bigger the challenges will be.”
Sir David is backing a series of Parliamentary motions calling on the government to treat climate change as a national crisis and accelerate programmes to move away from fossil fuels.
