A NEW neighbourhood watch group has been established to help create a safer community.

Resident Tom Atkinson has set up a Facebook page called Astley Bridge Neighbourhood Watch to help members of the public stay informed about crime and anti-social behaviour happening in the area.

The 39-year-old said: “A few weeks ago we had an attempted burglary. Our neighbour’s house was also targeted.

“I decided to set up the group to try and inform people of the issues and try to reduce crime.

“I am a local resident fed up of all the crime and anti-social behaviour that is going on.

“This group is designed as a platform for local residents and business owners to help one another to make it a safer, better community.”

Mr Atkinson said the page is aimed primarily at residents living in Astley Bridge. It replicates similar groups which have been set up in nearby Bromley Cross and Harwood.

The new neighbourhood watch group has called its first meeting on Monday, April 29, with police and a ward councillor due to attend. Residents are invited to Bar Lane Bowling Club at 6pm.
