Watford Borough Council is urging people to bring personal identification along when casting their vote in ward elections next week.

The town is one of a handful participating in the Voter ID scheme where people must produce their poll cards in order to take part in the ballot.

Ward elections will happen on May 2.

People with no poll card can choose from a host of other forms of ID that will enable them to vote.

Such documents include:

• Valid passport

• UK or EU photo card driving licence

• Biometric residence permit

• EEA identity card

• Northern Ireland Electoral

• Identity card

• Photo card parking permit (issued as part of the Blue Badge scheme)

• Ministry of Defence identity card

• Concessionary travel pass funded by HM Government

• Oyster 60+ pass

• PASS scheme card

Those who bring no form of official identification will not be permitted to vote.

Managing director and returning officer for Watford Borough Council, Manny Lewis, said: “The Voter ID pilot is really straightforward - before people cast their vote in Watford, they will simply need to show their poll card. In case people forget or lose these, they can show alternative ID.”
