FRED Dibnah pulled a pint of a new beer by Bolton’s Bank Top Brewery at the Carters Arms, Belmont Road in 1995. The new tipple was called Fred’s Cap. It was thought to be the first beer to be brewed in Bolton since the Magee Marshall brewery closed 25 years ago. The Magee Marshall & Co brewery was founded by David Magee in 1853 and operated from the Crown Brewery next to the Crown Hotel in Derby Street.
