THE cheapest and most expensive property areas of Bolton have been revealed in a new survey.

Based on average house prices in postcode zones across the borough, those in the BL7 0 area top the list. This includes Turton, Chapeltown, Edgworth and Entwistle, where the average price of properties is £313k.

Those wanting the cheapest properties should head for the BL1 1 postcode area where houses typically cost £62.2k.

The findings have been published by the company Plumplot and cover the period from March 2018 to February 2019.

The top five average house prices in Bolton by postcode are: BL7 0 £313k, BL8 4 £308k, BL1 5 £290k, BL6 4 £275k and BL7 8 £264k.

The bottom five average house prices in Bolton by postcode are: BL1 1 £62.2k, BL1 2 £75.3k, BL4 7 £90.1k, BL3 6 £91.7k and BL2 2 £95,5k.

The average property price in Bolton as a whole is £166k. This is considerably less than the English average of £294k.

Christian Pearson of Cardwells Estate Agents’ Bolton office said: “I think the main appeal of the BL7 0 area is its rural location. There’s a good mixture of attractive new build properties and classic old stone houses with real character. It’s a retreat where people who work in Manchester and major towns can come home to and get away from it all."

At the other end of the scale is the BL1 1 area which has the cheapest houses in Bolton and includes such areas as Heaton and Chorley Old Road. It has a large proportion of social housing and rental properties.

Mr Pearson said: "It's a bit tired and run-down, and there's a lot of social housing and rental properties," said Mr Pearson.

"However, it is a big area and it would be wrong to say that all properties in it are cheap . Some of the properties we have dealt with in BL1 1 go for £700k."
