A BODY has been found at a Farnworth mill.

Police were called to Century Mill in George Street shortly before 8am this morning to reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

They arrived to find the body of a man believed to be in his 70s. Officers say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a file will be passed to the coroner.

A nearby business owner said police were not allowing anyone near a unit at the mill.

They added: "The police were here when we arrived this morning and have been there all day."

Century Mill made headlines two years ago when 43-year-old Ian Bendall died following a "deliberate and brutal attack" behind the site.

Alex Smith, aged 28, also known as Colgan, was found guilty of Mr Bendall's murder and William Coughlan, aged 25, and Ellis Hampson, aged 19, were both found guilty of manslaughter in January of last year.

In 2016 the mill's roof was also damaged when a fire, started by a wood burner in one of the warehouses, tore through the building.
