COLLEAGUES from one of the area’s biggest employers are being invited to do some reminiscing.
Former members of the Mather and Platt workforce will be re-uniting on May 8 at Dobbies Sports and Social Club in Ainsworth.
Anyone who worked at the engineering firm in Bradley Fold industrial estate, before its closure in 1982, is invited along for the event which will take place from 8pm.
Workers first organised a reunion in 1989, which turned into an annual event.
However, with the passage of time, there are fewer and fewer survivors left to share their memories of what was once a job for life.
The event is organised by Alf Hollis, who worked for the engineering firm for 32 years until its closure.
Mather and Platt originated in the Newton Heath area of Manchester and was one of the regions biggest employers.
Its Manchester factory was immortalised by LS Lowry in his painting Going to Work alongside the famous ‘matchstick’ men.
To find out more about the reunion please contact Mr Hollis on 01204 532503.
