THE national chairman of the Conservative Party will be visiting Bolton today ahead of the local council elections.

Brandon Lewis will be meeting activists in the North West ahead of tomorrow’s vote.

This follows a visit from the Prime Minister last week at Bolton Lads and Girls Club which no local party members attended.

Lib Dem leader Roger Hayes suggested the Conservatives did not want to appear next to a national party figure.

He said: “The Conservatives seem to be doing a disappearing act in all sorts of ways at the moment. You might say they didn’t want to be associated with them because people don’t trust them.”

Tory leader David Greenhalgh said: “With only a week to polling day, myself and my colleagues were busy on the doorsteps, talking about local issues, a new set of priorities for Bolton, and ending the Labour control of the Borough, but I am delighted the Prime Minister found time to come to Bolton to see first-hand the fantastic work Bolton Lads and Girls Club do.”

Labour’s shadow housing minister Sarah Jones also visited Bolton as did mayor Andy Burnham who was in Farnworth on Saturday.
