A FLY-TIPPING nightmare continues after more than 30 bags of rubbish were discovered down a green embankment, where litterbugs have been dumping trash for years.

For "three years at least" a small green slope in Greenland Road, Great Lever, has been blighted by rubbish bags, according to a resident.

Peter Brabin, 73, has been pleading with Bolton Council again to sort the issue after finding yet more bags over the weekend, suggesting that the council put up a fence along the stretch of road.

Mr Brabin said: "There were 30 bags plus near the stream. It's been going on for three years at least. It's over and over again, so often I'm fed up of asking.

"I have reported dozens of fly tips here over the years and suggested preventative action to eliminate the problem.

"The council uses a contractor to clear them up every time. I've told the council what the answer is: put a fence up, it's more cost effective."

Mr Brabin has had to resort to picking up the litter himself with other volunteers along the road, also home to Mount St Joseph school.

He added: "Volunteers litter pick. We picked up 20 bags of litter from that road in our last session."

A spokesman for Bolton Council said: “Fly-tipping is an irresponsible and completely unacceptable offence that blights our public spaces and damages the environment.

“Tackling this problem and bringing those responsible to account is a major priority for Bolton Council.

“We are aware this is a problem spot for fly-tipping and we carry out regular surveillance and enforcement activity in the area which has resulted in a number of successful prosecutions.

“Residents can help us by using our website to report fly-tipping on public streets and council land.”
