A WALKING club will pay tribute to the dead at the site of one of the worst mining disasters in England's history.
Bolton Ramblers have a special walk planned on Sunday, May 12, which will take the group past the Pretoria Pit Disaster Memorial in Over Hulton.
The four-mile trip, will take walkers through the fields and woods of the Hulton Estate before visiting the poignant memorial to the disaster which saw 344 men and boys lose their lives in 1910.
Anyone interested in attending the walk should meet at 2pm on the A6, Manchester Road, Over Hulton, around 200 yards past Chequerbent Roundabout and just past the garden centre.
If travelling by bus, take the 540 from Bolton and get off at the first stop after the roundabout.
This walk is free, anyone may attend and there is no need to book.
However, walkers should bring suitably sturdy walking gear.
