ONE of the few choir's dedicated to people living with and beyond cancer is on the hunt again for a new leader, but the clock is ticking as its months of searching have been unsuccessful to date.

After six years, the choir's musical Clive Rushworth is stepping down and wants to hand the position on before his impending retirement.

So far, calls for a new leader have not returned any candidates.

The choir is putting out another search for a talented individual with the skills and experience to ensure they are the best they can be before time runs out and they are left without a director.

The 40-strong, mixed voice choir was established in 2012 by Karen Elliott, who wanted to offer a therapeutic and supportive experience to those going through treatment, moving forward following completion of treatment or living with cancer as a chronic condition.

The choir has become an important part of the weekly routine for members, with members reporting increased energy levels, a more positive outlook and an increased sense of wellbeing thanks to their new hobby.

The Bolton Cancer Voices Choir has gone from strength to strength over the years, not letting the cancer theme define it. From performing locally at Victoria Hall, the group has since performed on a national stage. The choir members have taken their talents to TV, being featured on on BBC Northwest Tonight, ITV Granada Reports and C5 News.

Incumbent chair Ms Elliott said: "We are looking for someone to bring out the best in us, challenge and inspire us, to help us scale new heights, take us on wonderful vocal voyages of discovery and keep enjoyment at the heart of all we do.

"It’s important they share our ethos, drive and commitment. We know the right person is out there, we just have to find each other! This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of something very special."

Ms Elliott added that the choir is willing to be flexible in order to find the perfect fit.

She said: "We are determined to find the right person for the role and though it wouldn’t be easy, we are willing to consider changing our current rehearsal night from a Monday in order to secure the ideal person to take us forward."
