SNAPPER Paul Whur found himself in the frame as he took centre stage at an awards ceremony.

Tyldesley Little Theatre's photographer and a key player backstage was awarded the Regional Special Achievement Award for Services to Amateur Theatre at National Operatic and Drama Association (NODA) North West Conference Awards in Manchester.

Paul, has been involved in productions with the celebrated theatre company for more than 28 years. The award follows his win in the local NODA District 5 Awards, which were held at the Last Drop Village in February.

Liz Hume Dawson introduced the award by listing a selection of Paul’s achievements over his 28 years with the society, prior to his presentation by the NODA National President, Jacquie Stedman.

A spokesman for the company said: "Paul was chosen for this prestigious award because his contributions to many aspects of Tyldesley Little Theatre epitomise the spirit of the amateur dramatic movement, giving selflessly for the benefit of others. Paul is extremely grateful to the Tyldesley Little Theatre membership, for proposing him for this award.

"In addition to Paul, Cathryn Megan Hughes and Cameron Rowe, also District 5 winners in February, were nominated for North West Regional Awards for their roles of ‘Alice’ and ‘Hugo’ in ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, but unfortunately didn’t win their categories. However, it is great to know that they are among the top 10 actors in the Region in their groups."

Currently showing at Tyldesley Little Theatre is the society's final play of the season Kindly Leave the Stage.

The comedy about marital issues — affairs, threats of divorce — by John Chapman and is directed by Hannah Boardman, who steps out of the footlights into the director’s chair for the first time.

The play centres on Rupert and Sarah's marriage which is on the rocks— and their best friends Madge and Charles are representing them in their divorce.

The play runs until Saturday, May 18.
