A BOLTON MP is one of 80 Parliamentarians to demand a government commitment to transport in the north.
Sir David Crausby and others sent a letter to the Chacellor to start the debate about what is needed in terms of commitment to the Transport for the North Strategic Plan and devolved transport budgets.
Sir David said: "Transport across the north needs major investment and transformation. There is no magic bullet, no single project will fix everything.
"What we need is a complete package to create new rail links between the north and the south, the north east and north west, and revitalise the local services that connect our cities, towns and villages throughout the region.
"We can make daily travel easier for people, take polluting cars and lorries off our overcrowded roads, and give the northern economy a great boost.”
The group says £120 billion of investment is needed by 2050 and rail connections between northern cities should done at the same time as HS2.
