A DRIVER was handed a £300 fine and six points on his licence after forgetting to renew his car insurance.
The man was stopped by police yesterday at around 5pm in Waterloo Street.
Officers checked his vehicle, a red Renault Clio, and found that his insurance had expired in April and not been renewed for another month.
He was ordered to pay a £300 fine and given six points on his licence after telling officers he had simply forgotten to take out a new insurance policy.
Police also gave the driver a Traffic Offence Report for driving without a licence, meaning he will be asked to complete a course or given another fine.
