A PICTURE paints a thousand words, so this one will fit right in at Altrincham Library.

Last month staff at the library were presented with a beautiful painting of Altrincham Town Hall by artist Katharine Wiseman.

The painting will be a permanent feature of the building, meaning it will be enjoyed by visitors for years to come as they browse the library’s collections or attend one of its many events.

The painting was officially unveiled by the artist herself alongside Trafford Mayor Cllr Tom Ross.

Cllr Ross said: “The painting is stunning and we were delighted to have received it from such a talented artist.

"It will now take its place in the new Altrincham Library to be enjoyed by generations of art and book lovers.

“Our thanks go to Katharine – what a wonderful gesture.”

Ms Wiseman is an artist from Liverpool whose work has been exhibited in the local area. She spent six days working on the painting which is two metres tall.

She said: “It was my pleasure to paint the Town Hall.

"I’m excited to have my artwork displayed at Altrincham Library – it will now be seen by the thousands of people who use the facility.”

In addition to commemorating Trafford’s architecture, the painting is evidence of the thriving art scene in the area and will be proudly displayed in the library building.
