In this image taken looking down from the town hall steps in 1974, towards Oxford Street, we can see the Co-op flag flying on top of their building.
You will also notice on the very right of the picture, the scaffolding surrounding what was the Commercial Hotel, and later became Mothercare. Today it is the home of the Barclays Bank.
