A 21-year-old man has died and a 21-year-old woman has been left in a serious condition in hospital after a crash on the M6.
The crash happened just before 7pm on Wednesday close to junction 27 of the M6 near Charnock.
Police and an air ambulance were called to the incident, which closed the motorway in both directions between junctions 27 and 28.
The Bolton News understands that the 21-year-old man is a former Witton Park Academy student from Blackburn, and has been named locally as Kamrooj Zaman.
The 21-year-old girl, who was travelling in the car with Mr Zaman, is also believed to be from Blackburn.
