Pupils from a Bolton primary school brought smiles to the faces of members of a Ladybridge community group.

The Year 4 children from Beaumont Primary School, Wendover Drive, Bolton, visited the Meet and Greet group session at Ladybridge Community Centre and chatted to the adults about their school projects.

Youngsters visit the group once a month as part of the school’s commitment to wellbeing.

The group, which meets every Tuesday, was started by John Tudor, Chair of the Ladybridge Residents’ Association, to help the local community connect with one other and break down barriers between neighbours, who may not have met otherwise.

It also aims to help community cohesion and provide a safe environment for support, friendship, laughter, fun and mutual advice.

School staff believe that the interaction between the pupils and older members of the group is mutually beneficial and Taherah Gora, one of the group’s organisers, agrees.

She said: “We felt there was a need for a regular group where people who did not have much contact with others could come and chat every week.

“Those who attend say it has made a big difference to their lives and having the children from Beaumont visit every month is something everyone looks forward to.

“The children are so confident and inquisitive and the interaction between them and our more elderly visitors is lovely to see.”

Stacey Postle, headteacher of Beaumont Primary School, said: “As part of our ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of our children and the local community, children visit Ladybridge Community Centre to share their learning achievements.

“This lovely monthly event is enjoyed by both children and adults and we are looking forward to keeping these links alive in the future.”
