FIVE teams are revving their engines and testing their brakes as they prepare for an 800-mile trip.

The teams from the Aston Darby Group property investment company based in Chorley New Road are taking part in a Top Gear-style challenge to get cut-price cars from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Armed with £500 each they bought five bangers to complete the trip and must complete the journey in as short a time as possible.

The race begins at sunrise on Wednesday, May 29th.

Aston Darby staff are raising money for two charities through their efforts, Bolton Hospice and Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

A spokesman for the two charities said: "Bolton Lads & Girls Club and Bolton Hospice would like to say a massive thank you to The Aston Darby Group for taking the time and effort to come up with, and execute, such a unique, fun and inspiring way of raising funds."

To keep things fair the teams have to reach certain checkpoints a long the way and get photographic evidence.

Once all the teams have reached the finish line they are planning to have well-deserved break before journeying back to Bolton.

The cars will then be sold on and the proceeds, along with money raised, will be donated evenly between the two charities.

The group is hoping to raise £3,000 to share between the two charities which both work to make people's lives better in Bolton.
