WITH the publication of the new railway timetable it seems that Bolton has suffered another relegation.
Up to about five years ago, we had regular direct trains from Bolton to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Penrith, Windermere and Barrow.
Since 2014 we have endured long periods of disruption while the line has been upgraded and improved to cater for the new electric trains.
These have now arrived and they are very welcome for trips to Manchester.
The problem is that Bolton has been taken off the long distance map.
There are now NO direct trains to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Penrith, Windermere or Barrow.
To add insult to injury we are informed that some of the trains to Scotland will come via Bolton, but will not stop here.
In what sense can this be considered as an improvement to train services from Bolton?
