COUNTING is under way at Bolton Arena for the European election.

Voters from across the town went to the polls on Thursday to choose who they want to represent them in EU parliament.

Across the European Union, 751 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will be elected.

Of those, 73 will be from the UK, with eight of those representing the North West region.

A Europe-wide embargo means the first results in the poll cannot be declared until 10pm.

If previous elections are a guide, counting is likely to continue into Monday.
