A PROPERTY manager has received a suspended prison sentence for allowing his premises to be used for growing a Class B drug.

Leyton Taylor, aged 32, appeared at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday.

Police said that Taylor, from Whitefield, had allowed a property he managed in Morris Street, Radcliffe, to be used for cultivating cannabis.

Cannabis is a class B drug meaning it is illegal to possess. Anyone found with the drug could be imprisoned for up to five years while supplying it can be punished with a 14-year jail sentence or an unlimited fine.

Photographs shared by police showed a large number of cannabis plants growing at the property.

Taylor was handed a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He was also ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service.

Greater Manchester Police's Whitefield team tweeted about the court result this afternoon: "Property manager Leyton Taylor, aged 32 of Whitefield, given nine months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months and 180 hours community service for allowing premises he managed in Morris Street, Radcliffe, to be used for cultivating cannabis."
