A ROAD in Walkden has been shut while police deal with an ongoing incident.
The A575/Memorial Road has been closed in both directions at the junctions with Park Road and Walkden Road.
At least four police vehicles are at the scene, with vehicles parked beneath the low bridge near Walkden train station.
Drivers are being diverted away from the area.
The road has been closed since shortly before 5pm.
One resident reported seeing several police cars "rushing up East Lancs Road from the direction of Swinton" and closing off Walkden Road outside the train station.
Transport for Greater Manchester has tweeted about the incident: "Due to an ongoing police incident, the junction of Park Rd/Memorial Rd and Walkden Road is closed in Worsley.
"Please find an alternative route, update to follow #TfGMTraffic."
