A NEW award which celebrates Bolton’s girls and young women has been launched by the town’s Soroptimists.

Nominations have been invited for the Young Achiever of the Year by the organisation that supports projects across the world helping women and girls achieve their potential and have an equal voice in their communities.

Soroptimist International Bolton is celebrating 80 years of service by looking for girls aged between 11 and 17 years of age on September 1, 2019 and who live in Bolton to receive this special award.

President Carole Swarbrick explained: “We wanted to recognise and celebrate the many Bolton young women and girls who are achieving goals and realising their aspirations in line with the global aims of Soroptimist International.

“The person we are looking for will demonstrate that she is having a positive impact on others as a volunteer or through service to school, family and friends or that she is achieving personal goals through academic subjects or sport.”

The winner will receive an engraved trophy to display for a year and a smaller trophy to keep, plus a certificate and £100 of vouchers. Nominations need to be submitted by July 19 by email to swarbrick778@btinternet.com

The Young Achiever of the Year award was launched by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Hilary Fairclough, who saidit was a “wonderful idea.”

She stated: “People don’t always know a lot about Soroptimists but the organisation does an amazing amount for women and girls. I would urge as many as possible across the borough to send in their nominations for this excellent scheme.”
