POLICE are hunting two masked men who threatened bank staff with a hammer and a metal bar during an attempted armed robbery.

The pair stormed the NatWest branch in Lee Lane, Horwich, at about 12.55pm yesterday and demanded money from staff.

They fled empty handed before police arrived at the scene minutes later.

There were no reports of any injuries.

An investigation has been launched and officers are looking to track down the two men.

Both men are described as white and had their faces hidden using bandana-style face covering.

One was wearing a parker-style coat and dark trousers, while the other was wearing a grey hooded jacket and dark trousers.

Detective Constable Carl Fairbrother of GMP’s Bolton District said: “This was a shocking incident that has left staff understandably shaken.

“This occurred in broad daylight in a built up area and we believe there may be several potential witnesses.

“Perhaps you saw these men shortly before or after the attempted robbery, or something that seemed suspicious or out of place.

“Anyone with information or footage that can assist our enquiries should get in touch immediately.”
