A HOMELESS charity for young people has received a donation of £1,000 from a shopping giant.

Backup, which provides a safe space for young homeless people, was handed the cash by staff from the Amazon Fulfilment Centre.

The charity was given the money as part of Amazon's local community support programme and plans to use the funds for food, toiletries and clothing and to continue helping people aged 16-18 who arrive in need of their services in crisis.

Amazon’s Bolton General Manager, Paul Ashraf, said: “It’s our pleasure to support such a vital charity in the local community. We are committed to supporting young people, so Backup is a natural fit to offer support through a donation. We are glad we can help the charity continue with its fantastic work.

Maura Jackson, Backup CEO, said: “Our support has two main aims, to prevent homelessness in the first place and increase independent living skills, setting up our local homeless youth for a prosperous future ahead. Our support is dependent upon donations and fundraising, so without help like this from Amazon, we wouldn’t be able to offer such vital services in the local area. Thank you to Amazon for the donation.

The donation forms part of the ‘Amazon In The Community’ programme whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
