ROADS across Horwich will be shut as hundreds of people descend on the town for the Festival of Racing.

The event is organised by a local committee with the support of Bolton Council and Horwich Town Council.

The weekend includes a junior duathlon and The Barbara Ronson Run, a one-mile fun run in honour of the late president.

Between June 11 and 16, several roads will be closed in Horwich to aid the event. From 5.30pm to 10.30pm on Saturday, June 15, the following closures will be in place:

  • Lee Lane from its junction with Winter Hey Lane to the Crown Roundabout;
  • Chorley New Road between the Crown roundabout and Winter Hey Lane;
  • Jones Street between Lee Lane and Peter Martin Street;
  • Winter Hey Lane, and St John’s St.

From 6am to 6pm on Sunday, June 16, the following roads will be closed: -

  • Chorley New Road between the Crown roundabout and Winter Hey Lane;
  • Lee Lane from its junction with Winter Hey Lane to the Crown Roundabout, and Winter Hey Lane.

Signposted diversions and marshals will be present to assist affected residents and businesses to use the alternative routes.
