A NEW style of ale thought to be the first of its kind in the UK will be unveiled as part of an event celebrating breweries and pubs.

The beer, named the Advanced Bunburyist after the pub it will be served in, is a rosè IPA, brewed by Bolton-based Holywell Brewery.

It comes as part of the inaugural Bolton Beer and Cider Week, running between today and June 16, which will see brewers and publicans across the borough celebrating the best of what they have to offer.

Rosè IPA is something which has mainly been brewed in the USA and it is thought that this new drink could be the first of its kind in this country.

Darryl Leech, who owns Bunbury’s, in Chorley Old Road, says he is excited to present the new brew and get started with the festivities.

He said: “It’s the first Bolton Beer Week coming up and the brewers have all been given the challenge of brewing a new IPA just for this week.

“There’s probably seven or eight places in the US that have done a rosè IPA and as far as we’re aware this is the first in the UK.”

The unusual drink has a dry taste and comes in at 7.5 percent ABV.

“I like it,” Mr Leech said. “It’s got a really dry taste, it’s a great summer drink.

“If it’s hot this weekend it will fly off the shelves.”

The Beer and Cider Week, organised by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) will take place in venues across Bolton.

It kicks off today with a cider festival held at The Beer School, in Market Street, Westhoughton, and will see special beers sold in Northern Monkey, in Nelson Square, Nook and Cranny, Bromley Cross, and at Bunbury's.

Other events will take place at Ye Olde Man and Scythe, in Churchgate, House Without A Name, in Lea Gate, and at Blackedge Brewery's Brewery Bar, in Horwich, Bank Top Brewery and Bolton Ukranian Club.
