FROM jazz to football, screens and stages large and small, and to academia and industry, Bolton has always been a hotbed of talent and artistry.

Now visual essayist and data website The Pudding has unveiled a list of the most Wikipedia’ed celebrities from every UK town.

Some will come as no surprise, while others are more oft unrecognised famous faces.

But can you guess which of the borough’s most famous sons and daughters have come out on top.

English actor and star of The Lord of the Rings, X-Men and Shakespeare’s Richard III, Sir Ian McKellan, was the most searched for Bolton celebrity.

Although he was born in Burnley, Sir Ian attended Bolton School and started his acting career in the town.He still retains close ties to Bolton and the Octagon Theatre, and last month chose the town as the location for a special homecoming, birthday performance on his current autobiographical stage tour.

Great Lever’s most Wikipedia’ed figure was Britain’s King of Jazz, Jack Hylton.

The legendary pianist, composer and band leader was born in the town in 1892 and became a success the world over in the British Dance Band era of the 1920s and 30s.

Little Lever’s most Wikipedia’ed celebrity is former Bolton Wanderers owner, businessman and philanthropist Eddie Davies.

And of no surprise, comedian and Phoenix Night’s creator, Peter Kay, is Farnworth’s most Wikipedia’ed.

Down the road in Kearsley, Anglican bishop and academic Ian Ramsey is the most searched for figure.

Bishop Ramsey was a prolific writer on theology and ethics and an eponymous Church of England High School in County Durham is named after him.

Actress Maxine Peake is the most Wikipedia’ed Westhoughton celebrity.

While sports stars are the most searched for Blackrod and Horwich natives, with former England and Wigan Rugby League player Phil Clarke, and Blackburn Rovers left-back Sam Hart taking the titles for the town’s respectively.

Other local celebrities to be the most Wikipedia’ed were Happy Mondays and Black Grape front man Shaun Ryder for Little Hulton; Oscar award-winning director Danny Boyle for Radcliffe.
