AS you probably know by now, I’m a great believer in working in partnership and a champion of ‘integration’ in Bolton.

One fantastic example of this is the Bolton Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service (MCISS).

If you are currently living with cancer or are close to someone who is, then you may be familiar with this service. If you’ve not yet come into contact with them, then you must get in touch.

The service is a partnership between Macmillan, Bolton Hospice, Bolton People Affected by Cancer user involvement group and Bolton CCG.

It even won an Integration Excellence Award from Macmillan Cancer Support last year for its ‘exceptional integrated partnership’.

There are now three hubs across Bolton, located at the Royal Bolton Hospital, Bolton One and Giles House at Bolton Hospice.

When you receive a cancer diagnosis it can be frightening and overwhelming, so the service offers emotional support and can direct you to local support groups to help you through your journey.

There are also the practical things to consider, and if your income is affected because you have to take time off work due to your illness it can add to the worry.

The service has a benefits advisor who can assist you with financial matters, travel costs, sick pay and benefits. There’s advice for people who look after someone with cancer. You may not consider yourself as a ‘carer’ but if someone relies on your help then you need the right support too.

They also run walking groups, make-up master classes and health and wellbeing events.

The partnership has worked together to provide the best possible support for people and their families who are living with cancer. Find out more by visiting: www.boltonmacmillansupport.org.uk and check the opening times for each hub as they do vary.
