A FLOCK of mischievous peacocks have become social media sensations thanks to their antics around the streets of Bolton.

The exotic birds roam wild around Blackrod and Horwich and have proven a hit with residents.

One of the feathered celebrities, known as Pedro, who lives in Blackrod, even has his own Facebook page where fans can follow his adventures and post pictures of his sightings.

Pedro was involved in a road accident last year but is now back to his comical self, visiting gardens, enjoying tasty treats and playing with his animal friends.

He is also known to frequent Horwich which has its own peacock superstar — Percy — and a pair of peacocks and a peahen have been spotted in the town.

Percy lives around the Georges Lane area, where he is beloved by residents and has been looked after by sisters Mary and Kay Rudkin.

After he appeared in her back garden four years go, Mary fed Percy daily until her death last year.

The task has now been taken up by Kay who says that Percy is particularly partial to Scottish shortbread and biscuits.

She said: "Percy is a character and very a handsome fellow.

"He seems to be in good health and a strong bird, and his tail when it's time to find a mate is absolutely gorgeous looking.

"He's been coming around for about four years and he's practically tame now. He's certainly not shy. He'll come right up to the door when it's open looking for food."

Ms Rudkin added: "Percy is looking for a lady at the minute but there don't seem to be any around, which is really sad."
