IT takes an army to help provide loving care at Bolton Hospice which benefits from a 1,000 strong group of volunteers.

During Volunteers’ Week the hospice honoured its committed friends with long-service awards for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years service.

Margaret Brabbin, volunteer coordinator with the hospice said: “A big thank you to our amazing volunteers for the support and time you so generously give to the hospice to enhance the experience of our patients and visitors — it is very much appreciated by all.”

Jean Gent was honoured for her 25 years service to the hospice, she said; "It was a great night, I'm so thrilled with my 25 year certificate and a badge that I will wear with pride."

Volunteers’ Week runs June 1-7 and is an opportunity for organisations to celebrate all the wonderful things their volunteers do.

During the week hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country, saying thank you to volunteers and recognising their invaluable contribution to the UK.

It is not just organisations like Bolton Hospice which benefit, volunteering has been shown to improve wellbeing as it is human nature to feel good after helping someone.

It is also a chance to gain valuable new skills and experiences, while boosting confidence.
