Oldham Athletic have reportedly accepted a bid for highly-rated defender George Edmundson from Peterborough United.
The League One club’s offer is believed to be £600,000 plus add-ons and could have seen them win the race for the 21-year-old.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony however denied his club were close to a deal on Twitter.
“I’m now on holiday for a couple weeks,” he said.
“No truth in any rumour. No deals ongoing for a little while. So ignore any rubbish written on transfer blogs.”
Scottish giants Rangers have been long-time admirers of Edmundson and have had a number of offers knocked back by Latics owner Abdallah Lemsagam.
The centre half has a year remaining on his contract and has been courted by a number of clubs in England as well.
Edmundson came of age last season, making 54 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.
He was a key figure as Latics flirted with a play-off push before finishing 14th in League Two.
