A BARBER'S shop is at the cutting-edge when it comes to helping out people in poverty.

Westhoughton Barbers took part in the first Hair Aid Global Cut-A-Thon to raise money to help people in poorer parts of the world to develop skills which they can use to lift themselves out of poverty. The charity also helps to coordinate volunteer hairdressers to work within their own community.

The barbers raised £165 through donating all the money raised by the cuts during the cutathon and there are plans for the stylists to volunteer their hairdressing services abroad to make a difference to communities.

Lynn Molyneux said: "We wanted to take part in this to raise awareness of the charity and the work it does.

"It send volunteer hairdressers all over the world to develop people's skills so they can then start to earn their own living.

"During the cutathon, which was taking place over all the world, we did 22 cuts and gave the money to the charity."

And as well as taking part in fundraising events, Lynn said the barber's shop would also be helping to further the work of the charity locally and internationally.

"I will be volunteering my services, " said Lynn, "It is something I will be doing."

The charity works in the Philippines, Indonesia and Cambodia and will be expanding to Thailand and Vietnam.
