SHE devotes her life to helping ex-forces men and women to adapt to ‘Civvy Street’ by facing and overcoming issues they may face.

And over the weekend Cait Smith faced her own personal challenge as she attended a training camp with the Invictus Foundation in preparation for the national games with the Invictus Team UK Trials Sheffield, on July 22-26.

Cait, who served in the RAF and the Royal Signals, is based at the Bolton Armed Forces Centre For Veterans CIO helping those who served in the forces adapt to life back at home.

Since leaving the armed forces she has suffered with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

She said: “It was so emotional. I did something that I never thought I would. I wanted to do it three years ago but didn’t feel ready. I was terrified but I absolutely loved it.”

Over the three day training campaign in readiness for the national games, Cait did archery, swimming a powerlifting.

“Everyone was so supportive,” she said, “The Invictus Games is about everyone’s personal journey and there was so many for who turning up was a huge achievement.”

Cait will now continue her training at Bolton One and could find herself being picked for the international games next year. She is looking for a sponsor for the games. In between training she also organising a Black Memorial Ball on June 29 on Armed Forces Day at Turf Moor in Burnley.
