A FIVE-a-side football match in memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide will takes place at Bolton Arena.

The Srebrenica genocide, which claimed the lives of thousands of men and boys killed, was the worst war crime in Europe since the Second World War.

Julia Simpkins, who is helping to organise the local tournament, appealed to people to put forward teams to take part.

She said: Teams of five men, women or children as long as they want to play football. If you can not get a team of five we can help make up numbers. Enthusiastic supporters are also welcome to watch. There is a cup and medals for the winning team.

"This is the third year we have held this in Bolton.

"It would be great to grow this event and get more people involved."

A football tournament in memory of the victims was first put forward three years ago in the 20 anniversary year of the Srebrenica genocide as the game bring young people together through football and inspire them to kick racism, hatred and intolerance out of society.

The tournament takes place on July 12.
