BOLTON'S Light Cinema has collected more than 1000 donations for refuge charity Fortalice, just weeks after launching a collection box in its foyer.

The cinema say they have been overwhelmed by the gifts, which include everything from toiletries to board games.

Fortalice assists people affected by domestic abuse and provides a range of support services including counselling, temporary accommodation and personal development training.

Amber, event organiser at The Light Bolton, said: “This campaign has been a massive success - a lot of thought has gone into this process and we have built up awareness which is fantastic.

I would also like to thank everyone who brought donations in.

“I feel great knowing that as a town we have managed to collect so many amazing items for the children and mothers in the refuge.”

Gill Smallwood, chief executive of Fortalice, added: “We would like to thank The Light Cinema for working in partnership with us to raise the profile of domestic abuse; it is a difficult area to talk about and we are immensely grateful for the work they have done with us on this subject.

“The difference the toys will make for the children in the refuge is immeasurable. Children and young people often come to us with little or nothing.

“To see a smile on a child’s face, when they choose a toy, tells us we know we have positively touched their life. We couldn’t do this without the help of all our supporters.”

Toy Story 4 is released on Friday 21 June, and its story begins shortly after Woody, Buzz and the gang have been donated to a little girl called Bonnie. Tickets are on sale now.
