A WOMAN is fighting for her life after falling 40 feet from a mill building.
Emergency services were called to the incident at Holden Mill, off Blackburn Road in Astley Bridge, at about 12.50am this morning.
Officers say that the woman, who is in her early 20s, is in a critical condition in hospital.
Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Firefighters from Bolton North and Farnworth fire stations were called out to assist with rescuing the injured woman from a roof.
A technical rescue unit also attended the scene.
Mark McCourt, watch manager at Bolton North fire station, said: "She had fallen about 40 feet. We used a rescue stretcher and hydraulic platform to get the lady down to the ground floor and she was conveyed to hospital."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at 12.50am to reports of a woman in her 20s falling from a building on Blackburn Road.
"She is in a critical condition. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing."
Holden Mill, a Grade II listed building, was built in 1926 and was converted to 275 apartments, named The Cottonworks, a number of years ago.
