A YELLOW weather warning is in place for Bolton as heavy rains and thunderstorms are set to batter the UK today.

The Met Office has released a statement saying that rain and storms could lead to flooding and disruption to travel.

The warning is in place from midnight on Sunday until midnight on Monday.

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

There is also a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”

The rain should calm by Tuesday as the worst of the weather will pass to the South East of the country.
